try a warm washcloth it may help relieve some of the pain.

Unfortunately Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) is itchy and on occasion painful. Short of using a local anesthetic (which your Dr. will not likely prescribe) there is nothing you can do but administer the drops as proscribed and make sure he keeps his fingers out of his eyes.
