I am the director of a church youth group and I need to ask some local banks for donations for a trip, how do I write the letter? This is the first time I do this, and I have no clue what to include in the letter. Any suggestions? Any web pages I can refer to?

  1. Ummm...don't churches preach that money is the root of all evil?...

  2. here's a website that can help you with fundraising.  good luck.

    http://www.stepbystepfundraising.com/don...

  3. The only way you are gonna be able to do it is if you are willing to put their banner/ad on something where lots of people can read it. Just tell them you got X number of kids going who have X number of family members who would be interested in spending money.

  4. Include the following info:

Name of Church and youth group

    Purpose of the trip

    Date of the trip

Donation structure ranges if applicable (i.e. $X will provide Y - $100 will provide transportation (or whatever))

Mention any incentives - tax receipt or if there is advertising available for certain donation limits - website or brochures or church bulletins, etc.

Also mention how funds are being raised ~ what are the youth doing to help raise money for this trip to show that they are committed and not just looking for someone else to foot the bill.

Keep it relatively short - no more than a page in length.  If you have any reference material that you could include (or website references) make sure to include it so the person reviewing the request can look up additional info if needed.

You may also want to try to solicit funds from businesses/organizations that are aligned with the purpose of the trip.  For example, if you were building homes for the needy, then you would approach businesses like Home Depot, etc. for funds.
