Can anyone tell me if Habitat for Humanity is a good charity. How do you know if the family is worthy of it?

Can anyone tell me if Habitat for Humanity is a good charity. How do you know if the family is worthy of it?

It is a good charity. I am fairly sure that they have a good method of determining who is the best candidate. They don't just give away homes, they get paid back from the homeowner.

I have personally worked with Habitat and my experiences have been excellent as a volunteer.  I do know that they require the families to put in "sweat hours" which are done working on the house, learning about budgeting, etc..  They also do a pretty good job in my experience finding quality families.

Habitat is a very good charity.

The families that move into the homes must but in a certain amount of sweat equity into their home and prove that they are able to afford and care for their new house.

The idea is to give people a chance at home ownership that most likely would never own their home without Habitat for Humanity.  We are all human--so there will be good and bad Habitat owners, life has no guarantees.
