Question:

Can anyone tell me if I can plant Jade outside in Zone 8/9 in a semi shaded area?

  1. Find the warmest and sunniest spot in your yard and put your jade plant there.  Water infrequently, when the soil has dried out completely.  Keep it in a pot so you can move it indoors to avoid freezing.


  2. That'll work fine as long as you cover it when a freeze is expected.  Just a box big enough to cover the whole plant is all that's needed.  I live in northern Florida - 40 miles south of the Georgia line - and am also in zone 8/9.  As long as I have a windbreak for my tender tropicals, and cover them from freezes, they grow just as well as they did in Clearwater.
