  1. you don't have to be exactly the same weight has you left

but it has to real close.

  2. bwj i am afraid you are showing your lack of knowledge on this subject. When a jockey weighs out he is leaving the weighing room to go and ride in a race and the reverse applies.

I have witnesed many times the approx.weighing out of a jock.mainly in the times before electronic scales and usually in the winter jumping months.

Jockeys are allowed 1 pound to allow for sweating ,weight loss during a race but that only comes to the fore when they weigh back in.

When i was point-to-pointing the scales were of the sort that you weighed cornsacks with and it was always a good approxiamation in those circumstances.

I rode in Ireland on a few occasions and the weighing room scales there were dubious at best so half a pound was not important at all.!!

  3. I'm not aware of anthing off the top of my head.

I know that they make allowances when the jockeys weigh IN especially in hot weather when they can sweat off a few ounces in the process of the race.

I can only presume that they'd be less accurate in the weighing out if the scales were broken.
