Question:

Can anyone tell me if the Marine Corp Eagle Globe and Anchor is o.k. to use on a cake?

My son will be graduating Boot Camp next month and I would like to have the EGA on his Welcome Home Cake. I have been told by other moms of Marines that they have had it done with no problems, but my local bakery refuses. I have found one cake topper on line, but it is too small.

  1. Have you asked WHY they will not use the Marine Corps insignia? I see no Problem with it.

@dded : Sounds like a Wal-Mart bakery, Talk to the GM of the store, you are not using it in a publication or in an inappropriate way the GM should inform them that the copy right issue is NOT an issue (called public domain). If you are unable to get it done there let everyone in the area know (including the GM of the store) so they can go complain and take their business else where, Semper Fi .

  2. It's not illegal, your local baker probably isn't capable of doing the emblem. If there is another bakery in town try them, or if you have a Costco, or large grocery store that does cakes try them.

    Semper Fi (Mom) good luck

  3. Hey cap'n! is there a nearby base? perhaps an on base/post bakery that can do the job? Perhaps if you can't get access to on base privileges than do some calling around to other bakeries that would be more than happy to oblige your request. Perhaps if there's a bakery nearby the base that caters to the military, they may be able to help and perhaps deliver if it's a ways away.

We're all proud that your son stepped up and by the way, give him a nice ice cooler of chilled water over the head for us?, and an ice cold beer?

  4. There's no legal reason why you can't.  Find a baker who can support your request.  h**l, Wal-Mart can use a picture of the Marine Corps emblem and do a silk-screened image of it on the cake!  I did that for a buddy's birthday with a picture of his beloved 65 Mustang on it; it was a smash hit!

Semper-Fi and tell him this Old Air Force Top Kick said, "Thanks!"

  5. Yep, they even have them already made up. Hobby Lobby or Micheal's.

  6. Your local bakery is really substandard if they can't meet this simple request.  There is no law against it so they either haven't got the expertise to do it or they don't want to for some agenda of their own.  Why don't you try to do it yourself?  If I were (god forbid) a Marine and my mom tried to make it herself for me I would be proud as h**l of her and swear it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.  Good luck to you and please thank your son for his service for me even if it may be in the wrong service.

Oh my wife has on occasion tried to bake cakes in the shape of my Tank and they came out pretty darned good if I do say so myself.  Give it a try.
