I know I've heard of it before, but I can't seem to find any articles or pictures of it.

  1. Izzy -

You are probably thinking about the Seven Sisters, which is an informal name for the Pleiades, a beautiful open star cluster that is visible in the autumn from the northern hemisphere.

  2. I'm not aware of one. There's a group of stars called the Pleiades (PLEE-uh-deez), sometimes referred to as the seven sisters.

  3. There are no constellations called the Four Sisters.  There is an asterism called the Seven Sisters.  The difference between a grouping of stars called a constellation, and a grouping of stars called an asterism is that constellations are, in some sense, more official.

The  Pleiades (Seven Sisters) has many names, including m45.  It also has more than 7 stars. But to the naked eye, there are about that many.

  4. No, but there is a winery and also a group of Inns by that name.

Who knows, one night an astronomer might have found M45, the Pleiades in a murky night sky and told his colleagues as a joke "Hey I've found the four sisters!" as there are 4 stars markedly brighter than the others.

  5. You can maybe mean the constellation called Seven Sisters or Pleiades, or the three sisters, which is one category of Freak waves on the ocean - or the weird sisters, which is a synonym for witches. But not four sisters... that's only a Korean sitcom.

The Pleiades are a pretty famous constellation and can easily be spotted in the night sky. They are also a very famous object in early astronomy, for example by the Sumerians.

  6. There are 88 constellations in the sky.

The Four Sisters is not one of them

Perhaps it is the name of a group of stars.

  7. No. You are talking about the Seven Sisters. They are a group of young, blue stars that are in Pleiades cluster, however, the most noticable stars are the seven sisters. The cluster actaully contains 500 young stars. But this is a cluster of stars. It is sometimes mistaken as a constellation. Hope this helped.

  8. There are none called the Four Sisters of which I am aware.  I believe you are thinking of the Seven Sisters, or The Pleiades.

The Pleiades star cluster, also known as the Seven Sisters and Messier 45, is a conspicuous object in the night sky with a prominent place in ancient mythology. The cluster contains hundreds of stars, of which only a handful are commonly visible to the unaided eye.
