Can anyone tell me if there is a train that goes from New York City to Elmira, New York?

I am visiting New York for the first time and I was hoping to visit some friends upstate in Elmira, New York. It looks like all the flights to from JFK airport to ELM airport are way too expensive. So, I was hoping to find a train or some other ideas to get up there that isnt so expensive.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated...I have to have this figured out by this evening.

  1. No.  There hasn't been a passenger train from metro NYC to Elmira since January 1970.  Shorline Coach USA runs trains from The Port Authority Bus Terminal to Elmira.


  2. Unfortunately, no.  There isn't any passenger rail service in New York State's Southern Tier.

    You will have to take a bus, drive, or fly.
