Hi, I found this dog food and it seems quite good but i would like someone elses opinion. The food is called 'Nature Diet' the ingredients are as follows,

Turkey min 40%, rabbit min 20%, brown rice min 5%, natural ground bone,kelp, herbs, omega 3&6, vitamins and minerals,vit A 1250 iu/kg, VIT D3 150 IU/KG, VIT E20 20 MG/KG.

PROTEIN 10%,OIL 8%,FIBRE 1%,ASH 2%,MOISTURE 75%.

This costs approx 70p per 390g pouch, is the protein in this food low? Only reason i ask is my two dogs are dalmatians and i have been told they should have a low protien food.

Thank You x

^^^^^ go to this page it will explain what to look for in a good dog food.

About the oil, What to avoid:

►Non-specific sources such as animal fat, poultry fat, vegetable oil, generic fish oil

    ►Mineral oil

    About the protein

    What to look for:

►Specifically named meats and meat meals such as chicken, chicken meal, turkey, turkey meal, lamb, lamb meal, duck, duck meal, beef, beef meal, eggs and so on.

►The following are lesser quality ingredients and are not found in truly high quality products, but may be present in smaller amounts (not as the main protein ingredients) in "mid range" foods: fresh byproducts indicating a specific species (e.g. beef/chicken/turkey/lamb byproducts), corn gluten, corn gluten meal.Products that include these as main ingredients should be avoided.

Take a good look at this website

  4. I hear that as long as it's not made by China, it's fine.

  5. That sounds like reallly good dog food and aboutt he protein, thing, that just enouhg.  10 percent is low enough and all those ingredients are really healthy. You must obviously love your dogs and nature diet is just right fo hem. Natural stuff are always best!

  8. Two thumbs up for being careful with the ingredient list. What you listed looks good.

I feed my dogs a higher protein diet, but they are not dalmations. The dog food project has an article talking about high protein diets and whether they are dangerous to dogs. You might want to take a look:

This site also has some good information on different dog diets.

  9. I would feed it... I'd personally prefer somthing that has a little bit more meat in it tho.  Dogs should have about 70% meat in their diets, and this has a min 60%, so, yes it is a lower protien diet.

Im not 100% sure, but I think the prob with Dals is the bladder and kidney stones.. I do believe you also want to stick to a diet that is as low in ash as possible.  You may want to find some groups on yahoo regarding Dals and also dogs with kidney/bladder problems.  They can better advise on if this is a good food to feed, and what may be better.
