I am creating a template for a friend and I don't want her to move the Header or footer. Is there a way to lock it so she can't move it?

  1. I don't know of any way of doing that with versions of Word earlier than Word Vista (2007).

    Sorry.

  2. You can 'Protect' the Header and Footer area so that the facility to 'View - Header and Footer' are greyed out.  Create the Header and Footer as you want them and close them. With your cursor at the start of the document, click on 'Insert' - 'Break' - 'Section break types - Continuous'. Now click on 'Tools' - 'Protect Document' .  At 'Protect document for', click on 'Forms' and click on the 'Sections' button.  Put a check-mark at 'Section 1' only and click 'OK'.  You may want ot add a password at this stage because unless you add a password the document can be 'Unprotected' by clicking on the 'Tools' menu and selecting 'Unprotect Document'.  Finish by clicking 'OK' in the 'Protect Document' dialogue box.
