Question:

Can anyone tell me more about getting water hauled to a living site?

I'm considering buying a property that does not have a well on it. How much does it cost to haul water in and how does that work? There is a creek on the site, can I use that somehow? And is there any other method of getting water to the property cheaply?

  1. pump from the stream and treat the water. Typically a sediment (dirt/sediment), UV (bateria/viruses)and carbon filter (taste/conaminants)will do the trick but get the water tested to see if you need anything else. Water is water no matter where it comes from... except the ocean. Google the "water cycle".

  2. Getting water hauled is very expensive.  If there is a creek on the site, then there is probably a decent water table.  Just pay to have a well drilled/installed, you'll save in the long run.

If you're really trying to go cheap, you could divert the stream and filter it.  But if you're in the US, this is probably illegal.
