Can anyone tell me more about the Street Parties in Australia?

i have heard of Street Parties in Australia but i'm not sure what it is. is it just a club or something more?

We have a street party at Xmas time.  We live in a Close.  We drag the BBQ up to the end of the street, everyone brings their chairs, food and drinks. The kids play and someone dresses up as Santa and hands out presents.  New Year is another time there are lots of street parties.

its where residents of a street all get together and have a party in the street,no club just ordinary neighbours having fun together

usually it is a quit street or a dead end street so there isnt too much traffic

But I'm wondering if you are referring to a particular teenage party, in Melbourne, which got out of control.

The whole fiasco got wide media coverage for a short while.

Parents out of town, idiot son "running the show", invitations by SMS and on facebook, lots of drunken guests, neighbours terrorised.

Many police units had to be called to sort the whole mess out.

Thankfully it's not a common occurrence here.
