webkinz.com. perfect 4 that age group and totally safe. It teaches responsibility because they have 2 take care of their virtual pet. It is most definatly mother approved and kids love it!

Funbrain.com is a really good site that is all games, but are focused on reading and math.  It is very clean and kids love it.  Also, pbskids.com, nickjr.com are family friendly.

My daughter is 7 and loves the Club Penguin site and the Webkinz site (for this you need to buy a Webkinz stuffed animal)  Don't forget to talk about internet safety before you allow your child to log on, better safe than sorry these days!
