Go to Irving street near 9th Avenue -- Ebisu -- which is not far from the Castro if you drive "over the hill" and past UCSF.  I think this is better than any of the places I have been in the Castro (for sushi, that is).

Try Deep Sushi.  It's located on Church Street at 29th, which is really Noe Valley, but reasonably close to the Castro district.
