Can anyone tell me please the reason for the first strip light on a bus on the nearside is a different colour.

It's colour is less likely to cause glare/reflection off the windscreen, therefore it doesn't impare the drivers view of the road at night.

its usually a blue light less reflection in windscreen so it doesn't dazzle the driver

It could be that a bright ightb is not directed at the driver he has a blind behind him that he can drop down at night so the lights are not shining behind him

The light is a different color to show the exit location in the dark in case of an emergency

I think it may be the emergency light if all of the other lights fail.  It would guide people off the bus in the dark.
