Can anyone tell me the basic rules of pool?

I'm kinda looking for the do's and don'ts. A couple of tips would also be appreciated! Thanks

All of the rules of pool can be found on the BCA (Billiard Congress of America) website.  First, read the section on the "General Rules of Pocket Billiards".  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

Right, the basic rules of pool are that the person who breaks the balls and if he gets a red one in (colour pool) then he has to pot all the reds before you pot all of the other colour. If you're playing pool with numbers on the balls then, person breaks, then opponent has a turn of scoring one. If they pot the ball, then they have another go and so on, but if they don't then it's their opponent's turn and so on. You have to pot all the balls (of your colour) but you must not pot the white ball, if you do then your opponent has 2 turns unless they pot the white ball and then you get 2 turns, etc and so on.
