  1. use weed killer, if that's no good because you have other plants around, you have to get on your knees an scrape them out, you can buy a tool for this, then fill the gaps with sand.

  2. The bleach would work but try also (instead) plain boiling water. Works well for weeds between pavers and isn't toxic to anything except plants and ants!

  3. The easiest & cheapest way is to make up a strong solution of non bio washing powder & hot water, (1 cup of powder to 1 bucket). Use a watering can to apply this liberally, the moss will turn black within an hour, then just brush it away & it will not come back for about 6 months, I am not winding you up, It really works on moss & algae.

  4. Can't you phone Pete Doherty and get him to pick her up?

  5. To REMOVE it there are two possibilities:-

You can get a 'block paving' rake, I've only seen them at a couple of National Trust shops but they do exist.

    or

    Use a pressure washer.

To STOP re-growth, treat with a good quality preventative after cleaning.

  6. Apply mercurised lawn sand as per the packet instructions, this will kill the moss, blacken it and it can be easily raked out with a blade.

  7. I'm so going to try the washing powder one!! I use the water that I used to boil my eggs kills weeds because of toxin's in the egg shell that are released when boiled

  8. This Old House on TV gives some good pointers and it's one I've used myself.  The question is about pavers but it doesn't matter it can be concrete or asphalt removal would be the same.  Removing the conditions that cause the moss is helpful.  It likes shade and moisture in order to flourish.  If you have a tree branch or branches you can remove that would allow the sun to fall on the area and prevent the moss.

Q: I have a driveway surfaced with concrete pavers. The joints are filled with sand, but I can't seem to prevent moss from growing in them. Spraying weed killer didn't work. How do I get rid of the moss and how do I keep it away?

A: Roger Cook replies: There are lots of people who pay to have moss added to their landscaping to make it look old, but moss on walks, decks, and driveways is unsightly as well as slippery.

Moss that's already taken hold can be removed from small areas with a stiff-bristle brush — since it has no roots, it comes up easily. Sometimes we scrub the area with a solution of 10 to 20 percent bleach to further discourage moss from growing back.

  9. Here is a simple, cheap, lazy solution:

    1. Buy granulated pool chlorine from a hardware or department story (l litre covers about 40m2)

    2. Using rubber gloves sprinkle the pellets evenly over the paving.

    3. Lightly mist the area being careful not to let the water run.

    4. Leave for about 2 hours and hose off

Your paving will look brand new. The chlorine will have soaked through and between the bricks destroying all mold, moss and spores. The byproduct of the chemical reaction is simple salt and there is very little damage, if any, to plants or grass bordering the paving.

  10. You can rake it out, spray a weedkiller on it or burn it out. I put weedkiller on it.

  11. Spray it with a chlorine bleach solution, about 5 parts water to 1 part chlorine.  You can sweep the moss out after it dies.

  12. Salt it.

Regular household salt, rock salt, dishwasher salt any old salt will do, it poisons the moss and any weeds. It also poisons the ground which prevents regrowth.

I salt my patio and drive way twice a year ( spring and Autumn), a covering of about an inch the first time round then leave to find its own way in. After that a CM should be enough to keep it clear after that.

Cooking salt from a cash and carry is about £3.59 for a 12kg bag.

Brush up the moss about a week after first application.

  13. The bleach or mercurized sand answers are good.  Weed killer doesn't work on moss.  I actually grow some moss for bonzai planting and spray weed killer on it all the time to kill grass and weeds growing in it.

  14. Drag it out with a weeder like this http://www.screwfix.com/prods/27033/Land...
