Can anyone tell me the ethnicity and/or the pronunciation of the first name Rohinton?

There's an author named Rohinton Mistry who writes about India, so I always thought it was an Indian name.  My English teacher pronounced it Row-hin-ton.

I work in the field of education, and I am regularly presented with names which are either uncommon, unique, or simply foreign to me.

I would pronounce the name in question as "ro-hint-un."

I think that would be a good place to start, but one should never be afraid or ashamed to ask the person who has the name.

I was going to say Indian-- their ethnicity is cool....I know lots of folks from India.....love the accent from India- as well.
