At the top there is a Grotto and the road is called Hungry Hill, would it have anything to do with the Famine of the 1840's?

  1. Hello Mary,

Yes the old building at the top od Connors' Pass is a grotto dedicated to the starving abd the dying of the area at the time of the great Misery in Ireland know to us all as 'The Potato Famine' but it was a lot more than just potatoes.

The Dutch artist Rene'Van Linde wrote about the view he painted of the Pass as " Magnificent" he was right, you should see his painting, 'tis beautiful.

Then Dan constantescu wrote about Connors pass, saying " The View is Moody! Due to the speed of the changes of the views due to the speed of how the weather changes" prpbably because the Sun is filtered by the passing clouds..I hope this helps you with your query Mary, thanks, as it took some researching for you,

look at the photos and painting by Van Linde for yourself, by typing Connors pass on your computer. Enjoy.....Tony M
