Can anyone tell me the most EFFECTIVE way to cure and dry Habenero Peppers naturally?

I have problems curing and drying Habeneros. They seem to rot/mold before they become completely dried.

If all possible I need to know how to dry them without the aid of a dehydrator. If I have to use a dehydrator, I have pets in the house, is it safe to use?

Thank you.

  1. You can dry habaneros like any other chile, on a screen that lets the air get around on all sides and the sun can help to speed this up; however, in my experience, dried habaneros tend to lose their good flavor and all that is left is extreme heat. In the Yucatan, where they are used a lot, they are seldom dried.  A dehydrator could work but may put out an eye-stinging vapor. It won't hurt your pets but may surprise them. Try pickling them instead.
