A few years ago, (not to sure exactly when), a large freight ship had to return to shore due to an unknown inncident which left a series of large tears from stern to bow and a large object embedded in one of these tears. The object was thought to be the beak of a large squid or collossal octopi but this was later dissmissed as the object was solid throughout and apparently had roots that bore a resemblance to a tooth or claw. The subject was in the news papers and on the television regulary for some time but the whole event was suddenly silenced and forgotten. When I try to research this it turns up nothing, but this was a very public event. I am not the only one who remembers this, but no one seems to recall the name of the boat or any crew involved etc. Infact the crew never spoke of it on televised broadcast or in papers. A sort of blanket was pulled over the whole incident. If any one can help with this it would greatly appreciated. Thankyou. Dog

  1. I seem to remember it was a navel ship (USA) and that dome shaped effort on the front of the keel, which was rubber covered had been damaged by what seemed to be large squid type sucker marks. I think the marks were about 30mm in diameter, with a serrated edge, which meant that the animal that left them was pretty large.I have the impression that this incident was shown on a Discovery programme. I am afraid this is all I remember.

  2. The Black Pearl?
