A private adoption can really vary in length of time.  It really depends on whether the mother is still pregnant and how far along she is-- or -- if the baby is already here.  A home assessment by a licensed agency is required before you can adopt.  And you may be required to pay for medical and living expenses of the mother while she is pregnant with the child.

However, if everything else is in place [home study, all State requirements met, etc.] from filing the petition to adopt to final order of adoption is about 90 days.
