This is a family member and I am worried. These are his behaviours:

Having conversations with people who are not in the room(people from TV,people from his life, etc, sometimes this can be scary as it can involve shouting)

Staying in his room unless he is signing on,or at the library, or the shops

Has no social life whatsoever

Doesn't seem to have a s*x life, his last girlfriend was when he was 16

Has no friends,hobbies or interests

Reads a lot about God,Nostradamus, various spiritual things, the I-ching,horoscopes,reads Tarot cards

Smokes loads of cigarettes

When he can,he smokes lots of cannabis/indulges in other drugs

-Can anyone tell me;1)What could be wrong with my relative

2)What could be done to help him

3)Any interesting websites that could help.

Thank you for your time reading this. Please answer as fully as you can.

  1. hiya well he sounds like he needs help anyway, is he in a position to actually receive help? does he think that anythings wrong with him?

talkin and shouting at the tv is a bit worrying tho, no social life and no girlfriend well that's probably for the better at the minute.

the cannabis will wreck his head completely thats not somthing you can smoke unless your very strong minded because it creates bad paranoia, is there another family member that can help you with this and can see the problem? your family member needs to get to his gp and ask for help or you can go to your own gp and ask advise yourself i wouldn't recommend that you leave this situation for too much longer.

gud luk hope it goes wel.

  2. Maybe Depression.

  3. This is all down to the weed! Try ask frank on a search engine for tips and guidelines. You cant handle this on your own. If there is an interest in religion, spirituality etc. look for a opening to get him to meet a person of 'religous study' in your area. Good luck and dont give up on him.

  4. Check the symptoms at this link. Cannabis use can bring on schizophrenia. It is treatable

  5. I think certainly like already suggested, cannabis can cause schizophrenia and the two are related sometimes.

However the route cause of this maybe something else. I mean, ask yourself this - why did your relative turn to drugs in the first place?

He may have some bigger issue such as depression/Bipolar?Borderline Personality Disorder  etc, all the symptoms you posted can be attached to various disorders. What I do know is your relative does need some help/advice.

I realise he may not be willing to accept any and unless he is a danger to himself or others - you will have to accept that and wait until he is ready to turn his life around.

A website I've found full of both information and support of all the illnesses I mentioned above and more is recoveryourlife.com - Link below.

I wish you and your relative the best and hope you both get the support you need.
