I was riding a bike through a Forest Preserve when I came upon some sort of contest. There was a traffic light set up with 2 vans sitting in front of a red light. Each van had a huge array of anntena - like 5 or 6 20 foot tall. There were what seemed to be judges near the red light who controlled the contest. When the light turned green - both vans did not move - however, they revved up their engines pretty high. Then the light turned red again and the contest was over. It lasted about 15 seconds.

There were a lot of spectators very much interested and involved. Most of them were wearing some sort of club t-shirt that said CB CLUB. I asked one of them what the contest was all about - all he said was, "Transmitting - Transmitting!!"

Just what were these guys transmitting???

  1. Your engineering knowledge probably has you on the right track. My suggestions are these: 1) they may have made the engine heads electrically charged, so just for fun, were trying a weird new way of generating electromagnetic signals; 2) The CB community which is quite knowledgeable may have read that the fast rotation of massive bodies will have effects on the gravitational field. This last hypothesis, I'd put it at a very deep zero of success. Scientists are monitoring and putting up ever more sensitive devices to get gravitational waves from, say, furiously spinning double star systems, and up until now, results are drat.
