My mom has been going to doctors doing a ton of tests. The phrase Metatastic Foci keeps coming up. She will not give us any details (she doesn't want us to worry) I have been researching the net and can't find it anywhere. She has cells in her Stomach, lungs, and bone. I am assuming it is some sort of Cancer. Has anyone heard of this?

  1. It's 'Metastatic Foci'.

    Tons of info on Google.

  2. It is small areas where cancer has spread to.

It did not POSSIBLY originate in a cancer elsewhere in the body, it DEFINITELY is cancer that originated somewhere else and spread to it’s current area.

  3. Frustrated,

The word metastatic refers to the transfer of disease from one organ or part to another not directly connected with it.

The word foci (singular focus) in neoplasia – refers to an abnormal cell growth that may progress to cancer - small groups of cells distinguishable, in appearance or histochemically, from the surrounding tissue and are indicative of an early stage of a lesion that may lead to the formation of a neoplastic nodule.

Thus, metastatic foci are cells that have possibly originated in a cancer elsewhere in the body and now appear in a different and unconnected organ / area.
