It will be fairly hot at the beginning of September (in mid to high 20s), though August is the VERY hot month.We had mid 20s this April when 15 is the average, so it could be hotter!Rainfall average.Good hotels are the Kette and the Belle Arti. Apartments are great!

you should stay in Venice town (no Mestre, no Marghera, no Lido, no Mira, no Tessera) just to enjoy the charm of the historical centre.

see for instance "Hotel Spagna" very close to train station and bus/car terminal

Hotel Bellini, also same location but higher category

Hotel Giorgione, very near Rialto bridge and 15 min walking from St. Mark's square

La Fenice et des artistes, 5 minutes from St. Mark's square

and more..go and see the site (I usually buy my stayes all over the world on this site and it works; not only, the price I pay is much cheaper than contacting the hotel directly)

--> Beginning September is a very busy period in venice (Regatta storica on first Sunday of the month) so you should make your booking as soon as possible

--> the weather can be very warm (25 degrees) like cool. See yahoo.weather before leaving to have an idea

Should be fairly warm still...I was there in early October and it was starting to get cold. We stayed at the Hotel Bauer - nice hotel and good location - 5 min walk from St. Mark's
