  1. Its not an area code at all, its a customer services line. Could ultimately be from anywhere in Britain.

  2. It's a premium rate prefix, not from any region.

  3. In the UK, 0845 is a non-geographic number which means everyone pays the same local rate for the call. It is not a "premium rate" number as you are charged the same as a local call, nor specifically a "customer services" number as anyone can have an 0845 number if they want to foot the bill.

No idea if this relates to Ireland too. Who were you trying to call?

  4. When you say you are in Ireland, I assume you mean the Irish Republic.   0845 is not a valid code in the RoI, but as noted already it is a "special" area code in the U.K. numbering scheme, originally intended to cost the same as a local call, although today it generally costs more to call than any normal call, local or long distance.

It's most likely just a sales call or something similar, and the company has its 0845 number set on the caller ID.   A call from the U.K. into the RoI SHOULD end up displaying as international with the U.K. country code (i.e. +44 or 0044), but unfortunately it doesn't always happen that way.

  5. 0845 is a national number which is charged to both the caller and the receiver, each pay a little over 3p per minute it is not as some suggest a premium rate number, there are three such numbers available.

0800 which is paid for by the receiver of the call

0845 which is paid by both

0844 which is charged at 5p by the caller

It is so people can call a plumber or electrician or other service without the caller knowing were the receiver is from

example if you live in Nottingham your code could be 0115

if you live derby it could be 01332 but 0845 can be either

you would not call a derby number if your in Nottingham but you would call a 0845 number because one plumber might be servicing both area's, hope this adequately answers your question.

  6. it's not an area code it's a service line. the call centre could be anywhere even as far afield as india

  7. not an area number its a buisiness number or helpline number. some chatlines begin with 0845 too.

  8. in England 0845 is not a area code it is a premium rate number that is used by banks and businesses

  9. Its a free answering service all over England.

  10. 0845 numbers are UK based, but the person answering the call could be from anywhere in the world.  It's known as a lo-call number, and is typically charged between 3p and 8p a minute, although this can vary.  If you want to dial a regular area code number, there's a UK based website where you can type in the full phone number or company name and the site will try to find an area code equivalent, if it has the details in its database.  The website is called http://www.saynoto0870.co.uk
