Basin is an ingredient used in Indian and Pakistani cookery.

It's apparently 'chick pea flour': This is a very fine-textured flour, creamy yellow in color and made by dry-grinding chickpeas or lentils. It is a very versatile medium which can be used as a base for many dishes, to prepare a batter with which to coat onions and other vegetables before frying to make bhajiyas (as distinct from bhaji), and as a garnish in the final stages of cooking vegetables, besan should be stored in a cool, dry place.
