She is registered as a red roan but has changed three times since she was born. She has all the dun markings and she has the dorsal stripes on her shoulder and zebra stripes on her legs

  1. With her black mane, tail and points, white hairs mixed with red on body, and dark red face she is a Bay Roan.  This is a recognized color by AQHA, and this is how they would call her if you sent a photo.  I see no dun factor in her, from this photo.

  2. im not sure, but she's beautiful

  3. This horse definately looks like a red roan i cant see the zebra stripes on its legs and its also hart to tell because of the saddle because some horses have markings on their backs and that would classify them as a different color. However "zebra stripes" are quite common but not for your horse they are common for buckskins. So i think your horse, from what i can tell is a red roan.

  4. Because of the frosting, the dorsal stripe, shoulder and zebra stripes are still, under RED ROAN.  IF there were NO frosting, then probably a gurulla or dun, but the frosting looks like it's there to stay.

  5. i'd say she's red dun or red roan. she beautiful

  6. bay roan

  7. she looks both bay like her face and her body looks definatly red roan

  8. She is a bay roan, not a red roan.  A red roan is basically a sorrel/chestnut base with white hairs (speaking generally here) and a bay roan is a bay base with white hairs.  If this horse didn't have the white hairs, she would be bay, hence she is a bay roan.

If she does really have those zebra stripes and the dorsal stripe, she could be a dun roan.  But personally I think her face and base color are too dark for that.

  9. red dun

    or just dun

  10. looks like a red roan 2 me

  11. roan

    red dun

    dun

dun or roan mixed with bay

or red dun mixed with bay.

sorry, not quite sure, but definatly one of these.

Good Luck! Hope you find out!!

By the way, thats a beautiful colored horse you have, it looks rare!

  12. Her base coat is bay with moderate roaning.  I'd call her a red roan.

  13. Looks like a red roan to me.. hard to tell with the saddle on, and I can't see the stripes on her legs from the angle of the picture :(

  14. it looks red roan to me, the white flecks in her coat show that she is a roan and the color of roan is obviosly red. i think that shes registered correctly. shes a georgeus horse by the way.

    hope i could help

  15. Definitely a red roan, she also has another distinct characteristic of a red roan, the darker, red head, dead giveaway along with all of the other things that you have already mentioned...and yes, they can keep changing colors.  wow, this mare is built like a brick ...well, you know what.  Nice mare.

  16. Red roan?  Not on your life! (LOL, just razzing)  But no she is not a red road.  A red roan is a sorrel horse with white hairs dispersed throughout.

It is hard to be certain in this photo but she appears to be a bay roan or a mealy roan.  Either can cause this coloration and it makes her look almost like a dark buckskin.

People red roans do NOT have black mane and tail and black feet.

    Nor do red duns

Since there are no zebra stripes on the legs or shoulder stripe and there does not appear to be a dorsal stripe (it should be barely visible, if you zoom in on the second photo) dun is out.

So the only two possibilities that remain are bay roan and mealy bay.  Both are hard to tell apart but bay roan should have lighter and darker patches (usually) while a mealy bay will have the white hairs dispersed fairly evenly.

Here is a red or strawberry roan.  Look under chestnut roan.

  17. I would say she is a red dun. What breed is she? i know some breeds change there coat color, but are always the same color. lol that doesnt make much sence but yea.

She is beautiful by the way.

  18. Maybe the photo colors aren't coming through on my PC. She looks like a plain ol Bay on my PC.

  19. strawberry roan for sure

  20. She definitely looks like a red roan to me. She has the frosted white throughout and the red coat colour. Roans can seem to "change" in colour depending on how much roaning occurs throughout their life but they are still roans. She is a beautiful red roan mare. Hope this helps...  :)
