hi am looking to buy a camcorder for personal use - nothing too fancy - but would like to be able to use computer editing and don't have a firewire port or a computer fast enough to handle one. i need to know what would be the best technology to use that would be able to transfer video to a computer as avi or mpeg (or whatever) via usb.

have looked at a few "hard drive" type models but they are a bit out of our price range, and the "dvd" models with expandable memory seem reminiscent of our previous minidv model which touted expandable memory but it ended up being only for still images

and can anyone recommend a cheaper model that has this feature?

AND can anyone state, from personal experience, how the digital transfer works?

thanks heaps everyone - i know this is a complicated question!!! cheers

  1. you should look at the download.com it shows you reviews of different camcorders as well as cameras tvs, etc you know anything electronical. i use it all the time when im trying to decide on what kind product i should buy.

  2. I strongly suggest that you use Firewire because it is WAY better than USB.

Choosing a camcorder is very easy. You get what you pay for. The more expensive the better.

Ours is great (but did have an LCD problem)

    ---Sony HC-96... 2 effective megapixels.

pretty old.... it was put on the market in Feb 2006. Now it's about $600.

If you want to edit video, I suggest getting MiniDV.

Hard Disk Drive are only good for concerts.

DVD is good if you're not going to edit.

Sony is a very good brand.

Even though we had a problem with ours, we would definitely stick with Sony becuase the others suck.
