Can anyone tell me what is the cheapest mode of transport I can take from Calgary to Edmonton?

You could hop a freight train. That's about as cheap as it gets. The best part is that all trains heading north from Calgary go to Edmonton so you wouldn't have to worry about ending up in Toronto or Vancouver by mistake.

A Greyhound bus. One-way fare is $50.

Take a look on Carpool.com sometimes people make that trip and are looking for company, they usually only ask you to cover half the gas!  Also post an add for a ride there!  Other than that i'd say Greyhound!
