my biology teacher gave it to me and said it is a south african plant that would take over any other plants it grows with. i've only planted it in a pot by itself so i don't know if there is any truth to what my teacher said.

  1. a kalanchoe that will take  over.  it will self-propagate

  2. The plant you have is a Kalanchoe.  The reason why your teacher said that is because this will eventually occur:

The plantlets on the edges of the leaves will drop off.  If they land on soil, they will grow!  This often becomes a problem in greenhouses because the kalanchoe gets into every pot if it is not isolated out.

They are a great plant though and it's cool to watch the plantlets grow!  Have fun with it!
