We found this growing in one of our plant beds. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Are these tomatoes? Peppers? Neither?

This is Ulster County, NY (USDA Hardiness Zone 5) on July 30, 2008.

I took pictures and posted them here:

Thank you!

  2. They are not tomatoes,I would guess some type of peppers.

  3. They look to me like plum or roma tomatoes. Is this the first year you are doing a garden in that spot?

  4. EASY, Yes they are some kind of cherry or grape tomato that probably seeded itself from last years garden or the birds dropped seed from the neighbors last years garden.

    Proof?

Pick of a few leaves and roll them in your hands.

You will get a pungent smell that will be difficult to wash off.

If you pick enough leaves your fingers will start to stain also.

Or just type in grape tomato on the computer, you'll find it!

  5. I have a few heirloom tomatoes that have a "potato" leaf and they look just like yours - so I am going to say, yes they are tomatoes.

  6. The look like cherry peppers.

Don't trust me though, I'm not a bontanist.

  7. A variety of squash or zuccini perhaps.
