I'm going on vacation there soon and I was just curious what sorts of dangerous animals are found throughout the country? I assume there must be bull sharks and I've also heard of there being tiger sharks. Any other large agressive fish I should be aware of? And are there any large land animals that are known to be aggresive toward man?

  1. I just watched yesterday a show on National Geographic called "Killer Crocs of Costa Rica". It was amazing! I did not know they had such HUGE crocodiles in Costa Rica. We are going there too in April. I am more worried about the bugs though.

  2. If you go hiking in the jungle, do watch out for snakes, some of them are quite poisonous.  I saw two poisonous snakes during my lengthy stay there.  And there are few rivers that still have crocodiles in them- don't go wading in them!

There are a small number of jaguars still around in the remoter jungle areas of the country which have been known on very rare occasions to go after humans.  Also, don't stand directly underneath howler monkeys, they sometimes like to urinate on people!

The dangers on the whole are not great, though. Definitely stay on the path in the jungle, however.

  3. Mostly the poisoness dart frogs & snakes in the depths of the Rain forests/jungle...It is safe as when one decides to visit Florida knowing we also have lot's of critters here in Tropical Paradise too...BUT our critters aren't simply waiting to "attack" they are within the areas they live...it is people who stumble upon the that disturb & chance a repercussion...\

Costa Rica is a country filled with species & unexplored as well...an awesome experience! Look online some, do a search for Costa Rica...great sites Pictures & videos as well...We are leaving in the morning for Uvita Costa Rica & will be back Feb 6th, hope you have a great time~

  4. DO NOT feed the monkeys. They are cute and they may comr right up to you and beg for food. Monkeys are very dangerous...if you see their teeth youll know why. They can get very aggressive. Another reason not to feed them is the bacteria from your hands can make them very sick and die. So many tourists think feeding monkeys is like feeding ducks but its the worst thing you can do..they need to be able to find food on their own and not rely on people. As far as bugs go, just bring some mosquito repellent with you and youll be ok.

  5. I think that you have the idea that costa rica is a whole jungle!!!!

If that's so.... That perception is completely wrong!!!

It is true that there might some sharks on the oceans but, believe me there are not chances of finding one.

Costa Rica is a safe country you don't have to worry so much while you are here... Just Enjoy it!!!
