Can anyone tell me what the best thing is to clean stainless steal?

After working in kitchens for many years, I found the best thing to make Stainless shine are the products specifically for Stainless. We used Sheila Shine.  Just spray on and wipe off.  Very easy!

stainless steel scratches easily so a non abrasive spray liquid is best, preferably alcohol based as it won't leave smears when it dries

Yes I can! It is a really horrible thing as it stains every time you wash it doesn't it. So who ever called it stainless was an idiot! The best thing to do is to clean it with detergent to get off the marks or dirt. Then wipe dry. After that spray a small bit of WD40 on it and wipe all over. This will give you a perfect finish. You can get this from any diy shop and basically it is a really thin oil. You can also use it to polish slate and marble.

Just don't get caught and you probably won't end up with any stains on you when you steal something.

There are two different things I have used

1. Baby oil (like Johnsons or other brands)

2. Vegetable oil

On a cloth a very thin coat of it and polish it well

Vinegar cleans stainless very well.  I mix with 50% floor and wall cleaner general purpose detergent (could use dish wash liquid).  Rinse and buff up with a dry cloth.
