now it could be durogatory if a bunch of dirty old construction workers are calling you it, but if its amongst friends its a compliment

Its nothing to get worked up about, its just a term of affection; no different to &quot;sweetheart&quot;, &quot;love&quot;, &quot;honey&quot;, etc etc.   They are just being nice.
