  1. I have never been to Coventry station but New Street is very well sign posted.

  2. Birmingham New Street is almost am Underground station, there's tunnels and passageways, but it's an easy enough place to navigate, and the platform numbers go from right to left in order of numeracy.

  3. Phobia of people. tsk tsk. Please visit the psychiatry section of yahoo.

Nah, kidding. I've been to the Birmingham one. It's large, packed (depends on the time of the day. There are people to tell you where to go, and you walk into the train room (or whatever it is!) and there're like 5 trains lined up. You have the chance of getting on the wrong one if you're stupid. Don't forget to ask people

  4. Birmingham New Street is a very large station but really easy to navigate. There are tons of screens on platforms and in the main information area and there are loads of people to help you. The same with Coventry but this is a smaller station. Don't worry about anything- you'll be fine. Enjoy your trip.

  5. Coventry is quite small, it's only got 4 platforms so is dead easy. New street is very big but there are loads of helpful conductors and screens. Also, the layout is logical so easy to navigate. You shouldn't have any problems. If your not sure just ask.

  6. You'll be fine. I remember stopping off at Snow Hill and also getting in at New Street and it was simple. Everything is easy to understand and if you need any help just ask someone. The platorms are'nt a large distance apart so you should have no trouble.

  7. Birmingham New Street is quite a big station - 12 platforms but you just go upstairs to the main concourse to change platforms, there are screens at the top of each stairs showing which is the next train from that platform, and other screens both there and on the platforms which list all the departures for the next half hour or so, and which platforms they go from (it's worth knowing where your train is finally going to, as these screens only show the final destination).

The platforms are numbered from 1 to 12 in ascending order as if you were facing into the station towards the southeast. However each platform is also divided into the "A" section at the north end of the station, and the "B" section  at the south end, so trains may be announced as going from "platform 2" if it's a long train, like one of the ones to London, or from "platform 6A" or "platform 7B" is it's only a short local train which doesn't need the whole length of the platform. Bear in mind that there may be trains in both the A and B parts of the platform at the same time, which will go in different directions to different destinations, so be sure to watch the screens to make sure you get on the right train!

The only complication is "platform 4C", which is a short platform located between platforms 4A and 5A, where the trains which call at most stations between Birmingham and Liverpool run from.

If you get confused there's usually a member of staff somewhere on the platform, and other passengers can be quite helpful too.
