Can anyone tell me what this latin phrase stands for?

im desperate to find out what the phrase "Dulcius ex Asperis" means and what it stands for?

I know its supposed to mean, sweetness through difficulty...but what or how was it used exactly?

  1. It means sweetness through difficulty, as in, you can only really appreciate something good after you have experienced something bad.

    It is also the motto of the Scottish Ferguson clan.

  3. "Through difficulty, sweetness" Its the clan Ferguson motto and their badge is a bee so I suppose the reference is that the bee has to work hard but gets honey in the end. I can't think of an actual phrase but I know its often said that something is better if you've had to fight for it (or something along those lines)
