  1. A good resource book you can get for understanding the racing forms is

Betting on Horse Racing for Dummies

No offense! But it is very resourceful for any beginner and will show you the ropes at your own pace. You can easily pick up a new copy at http://www.Amazon.com for around $14, or even a used one for much less.

Another good source for racing information is

                   http://www.horseplayerhaven.com

There are loads of free info at the bottom of their home page.

Good luck and I hope to see you in the Winner's Circle!

  2. yep just read loan sharks answer

  3. just go to www.askjeevesforkids.com

    or

    www.ask.com

  4. All newspapers are different and can give information in a slightly different way. Even the Racing Post can give two different favourites depending whether you look at the shop edition or the wall display edition.

As far as the line you give goes, it means:-

Horse number 1. (Will have number 1 on saddle cloth.

    (8) means drawn 8 ,that is will come out of stall eight

955842 are it's last six finishing positions, so it was second last time out and fourth the time before that.

    Yarquis is name of horse

18 is the amount of days since it last ran (when it finished second)

    (T) means it has it's tongue tied down to help it not to choke.

    (S) means it acts on the soft going.

    C.Brittain is the Trainer

4-9-10 means it is a four year old carrying 9 stone 10 pounds

    S.Sanders is the Jockey

and finally 77 would be the newspapers rating, and that number probably means you are reading the Daily Mail.

In general that is the way it goes. Help was of help.!!

  5. Any race-card will explain, next time you know someone going to races ask them to get you a race card.

  6. i have never come across such a book. can't u ask family member or workpal?

  7. there should be a guide in the paper, are u reading the sheet in the bookies - if so buy the paper annd read through it all and you'll find all the information, don't matter if the paper is a week old - u just want to understand for future reference.

deciphiring the info to pick the winners - thats a book we all want.

ps - best info i get in the RP is the affect of the draw for flat races, look for it and consider it before doing a bet in a race ie dont back a horse drawn low when the draw favours high numbers - they will probably talk about it on C4 morning line ahead of the ayr gold cup this saturday.

  8. I can't better Loanshark's answer, and would agree that the form guides will vary from paper to paper.
