Can anyone tell me why, in Bingo, the number 9 is Doctors Orders? Thanks.......?

The above answers are interesting - I hadn't known that.

I thought it would be because, when listening to your chest through a stethoscope, a doctor used to tell you to say '99'.

(In France they tell you to say 'trente trois' -33)

A pill was prescibed for British soldiers  during the Great War which was supposed to cure all ills.The pill was known as a Number 9.
