Where there any other assets given up to the Jets from the wings.

Ps. The Winnipeg Jets are now the Phoenix coyotes.

  1. They wanted to dump salary, were foolish and didn't see the potential that Drapes had.

  2. Possibly because his last name didn't end in "ov" or "in" The Jets were under GM Mike Smith at the time and his of love of Russian players (I'm sure Leaf and Hawk fans will remember this bum) . Draper didnt fit into the teams plans at the time and was sent off to Detroit. Still makes me mad to this day. Prime example of mismanagement of player talent

  3. To this day, Drapes wonders (as do I) if it was a loonie or greenback

Well if it's a cultural thing, Mike could have changed his name to Kris Nogoalov and sold him to Toronto for a twonie to be Boris Mironov's translator

  4. Was it really a trade, or was it a waiver wire pick up. Where Drapes was put on waivers and the fee to claim him off the wire was $1?

  5. They needed the cash.

  6. The Jets management had a collective mental breakdown.

  7. The Winnipeg jets traded Kris Draper for $1 to the Red Wings in 1993 because they needed some money. It sure was a great pickup for the Wings though!

  8. Nope - The Jets just wanted to dump his salary.

    Nice pickup, huh?

(EDIT - The original deal included "future considerations".. but thats just fancy talk for "nothing".)

  9. imo it comes down to bad coaching and scouting.  They didnt see future potential in Draper so they found a buyer.  Has turned out pretty good for Detroit and him. I really dont think his career would have paned out the same in many other cities.

  10. Probably because the Jets wanted to make a point that they didn't think Draper was worth a c**p.  That was before the true defensive forward role was born.  They knew he didn't have much of an offensive upside.  Back then that is what counted.

  11. The dollar is looking good!

  12. Back in '93 a medium double double was only $.94 and a timbit was $.06. Add em up = Draper

  13. Well GM Mike Smith was fired 8 months later.  He thought he was getting Dallas Drake in return but faxes smudged back in 93 and

    one Dallas    Drake became

    one Dollar  not fake

Or was that one B Dollas  - Bobby Dollas was on the wings roster at the time too.
