  1. It is true that one cannot generalize about the niceness of the teachers, and that community college tends to be easier.  However, the first poster's last statement should be taken with a grain of salt.  Not only do many people lack the option of "Waiting until they are better," but emotional problems don't have to block you from participating in society.  My own sister has fought a life-long battle with depression and social anxiety, but made it through a regular college well enough.  She started at community college.  I have autism and am working over the summer and will return to a community school in the fall.  People with schizophrenia, down's syndrome, and various other "mental problems" have gone to college so please do not let others discourage you simply because they think you aren't "normal enough."  If you feel you are ready for school, by all means go for it!  But if you are concerned about teachers that may cause you problems, the best option is to talk to them and see how they are, and even sit in their classes for a bit if you have the option to switch.  Remember, this is a community college, so the professors just might be the understanding sort of folk.  The older more experienced teachers probably will be very understanding, as you will not be their first student to have some sort of trouble.

If you're concerned about the classes being too hard, perhaps going to school part-time would work best, at least until you get used to it.  Usually, you will also be able to drop a class early on if you think you won't be able to handle it.  I only took one class last semester, after multiple classes didn't work out, but I'm planning on taking on more when I go back.  You need not take on more than you can handle.  But most importantly, don't let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do.

  2. You will find all kinds of professors at a community college. Many are adjunct profs from nearby universities or colleges. However, none will harass you for not handing in assignments or not showing up. While they might be concerned, it is not high school anymore. It's up to you to make the grade. You pay for classes, you earn your grade.

  3. You can't generalize about the niceness of the teachers.  The classes tend to be smaller so they do get to know more of their teachers. Community college tends to be a little easier and easier to get into. If you are emotionally unstable, maybe you should wait to go to school until you are better.
