Ganassi really needs to sell his Cup teams and stay with open wheel, which is what he really loves and devotes his time and resources to.  He hasn't been successful in Cup and needs to give it up.  He overestimated the ability of open wheel racers to quickly adapt to NASCAR.  Montoya isn't great outside of one road course win and his other drivers continually resemble field fillers.

Dario really hasn't been given a fair chance in Cup and I think that's a shame because he's very marketable..

But Chip needs to go back to his open wheel roots, race 18 or 20 times a year in front of half full stands.

that is, dario's cup team was shut down.  all reports say he will still be in the #40 on the nationwide side, and if i were reed sorenson, i'd be running my wheels off from now until the end of the season. rumors have already been circulating about him not being back in the #41, and now there's three butts available and only two seats...

Many fans have the impression that most of the primary sponsor money goes to the driver.

But this case is an example of why they are wrong. For most teams, at least half of the money from the primary sponsor goes to general team funding so the team can build cars, pay the crews, travel costs, R&D and so on. Obviously some deals are larger, and therefore the driver gets a larger overall cut.

The #40 car driven by Dario Franchitti and owned by Chip Ganassi. Apparently they didn't have enough sponsorship money and good enough performance to keep the team running.
