We want to lower the temperature in a windowless room from 83 to 75 degrees F. Think the swamp coolers are worth the money?

  1. Yes, they work well.  On really, really hot days, put ice in it.

    I'm in Georgia.

  2. I grew up with no a/c other than swamp coolers. They were amazing and I think worked better than something like central air.  I think they are definitely worth the money. I hear they don't work as well in really humid climates? I live in a super dry one, so I don't have to worry about that.

  3. Yes, we had one and it did a great job. Since we live in a dry climate it was good for humidity too.

Sold it for $50 and just saw in the stores it's selling for $300

    We put in a/c

  4. You may have limited results because of a couple of things: as stated above, you need lower humidities to make the swamp cooler cool the air.  If not, you are just making things more humid.

The other part of swamp cooling that has not been mentioned yet is that you need to create wind or a draft to make the water-cooled air chill the room.  If you don't have any windows, you may have a tough time creating a draft and the swamp cooler may not be as efficient.

  5. ~~They work great but it must be in a dry climate. Forget it of you live somewhere with high humidity. ~~
