what i mean by full circle is: don't just start with the sun and work your way up the food chain. you have no way to end back with the sun. - at least not a way that will serve my needs/purposes.

the best i've come up with so far is:

"The purple sandpiper is food for the arctic fox, whose droppings fertilize indigenous flowers, which are pollinated by bees, whose decompoased remains feed native bacteria, which produces mineral salts, which nourishes moss and algae, which supplies food for the purple sandpiper."

notice the way this example begins & ends with the purpse sandpiper.

notice also, however, that it doesn't include humans.

i also wish it included a few more animals/objects.

thank you & good luck!

  1. Mosquitos feed on humans. They in turn are food for guppies, which get eaten by blue acara cichlids which get eaten by shovel nosed catfish which finally get eaten by people.

All human paracites begin and end with humans. Malaria is a protozoan which gets eaten by mosquitoes, eats the insect's salivary glands, gets passed to another human where it initially eats the liver and then moves on to feed on red blood cells. The bilhartsia paracite is a flatworm which can live in the lungs or liver. Its larvae pass out of the human body through the gut and infect pond snails. The snails then release larva which re-infect people. Many paracites have more than 1 host which increases their chances of survival by being in several species at the same time. However, if just one species dies, it breaks the infection chain and the paracite dies. Most mosquito borne diseases involve controlling the populations of mosquitos.

  2. hawk eats mouse. hawk dies. the hawk is decomposed by fungi and bacteria. Berry plants grow using nutrients from decomposed hawk. Mouse eats berry. Another hawk eats mouse, etc.

  3. grass>cricket>rabbit>human>decomposers in the soil>grass

You could get more complex by including something between the rabbit and the human if you wanted to, but this would work.

Of course, without the sun, none of this would be possible to start with. But the energy does not cycle back to the sun. The nutrients cycle. The energy is transferred and eventually "lost." Energy never cycles, it moves in a one-way direction.

  4. Yes I can think of one. Grass, bugs eat grass, birds eat bugs, people eat birds , people fertilize grass, bugs eat grass......
