  1. 1.longan -sweeter and smalle than lychees.

    2.mamey -brown skin with orange inside.it has soft ,creamy ,sweet taste.

    3.fuyu persimmon -called apple of the orient.looks like tomatoes with orange color.sweet and tangent.

    4.hackiya persimmons - acorn shape but same taste of fuyu.

    5.durian

    6.Rambutan

    7. mangoosteen

    8.sapodilla or chico -brown skin with sweet creamy taste.

  2. Carambola, sometimes called a star fruit.  Cross section is star shaped. Tastes like a salty pear.

    Durian, from asia markets.  Smells like a rotting goat.  in SE asian countries you cant take them on busses, taxis or into hotels.  Supposed to tzasted good...if you can get them past your nose.

  4. Lychee Nut (red with little fuzz with a white inside)- a fruit

    Pepno melon (small and oval and yellow)- fruit

    Available at select Ralphs they also have a tropical section and organic.

    Bristol Farms also carries rare special import fruit, but it is a little expensive per pound compared to apples and oranges.


  5. mangosteens just recently have been able to be imported into the US.  when the ban was first lifted, they were 20 dollars each.  They're about the size of a kiwi.  Now, they're about 15 dollars a pound.

  6. Dragon fruit. It looks something like a pineapple, but red and green.  

  7. Bakupari from Brazil and Bolivia.  Ovate shaped with point at apex.  Orangy yellow, rough, leathery skin.  Inside white with excellent taste & 2 rounded seeds.

  8. I've bought Buddha Hand in the grocery store. It's a fruit and it looks like like an orange with fingers =)
