  1. I definitely believe in volunteering.  However, strictly for the sake of argument, I suppose if I were DEBATING the issue, then I'd have to say something like "volunteering is futile"; that it doesn't make the problems go away; that it's a waste of my time as a result, when I could be making my own life better, or that of my family; I could say that it gives false hope, or that it makes people dependent; or I could say that it is something the government should be taking care of.

Those aren't what *I* believe, but in a debate I'd probably call upon ideas along those lines.

  2. Employers sometimes want their employees to volunteer while on the clock.

There are a couple things wrong with that

    1. "that's not my job" is used as an excuse. And to some degree it is legitatment if it's something the person does not want to do

    2. Most companies (especially with unions) do not want their employees to leave the work place while on the clock because any accident is elgible for worker's compensation. It's prefered that an employee sit at a desk half asleep than to send them out and risk a car accident or something like that.

  3. There are times in your life when you are young and your first priority is for your family.  If you get thru this part of your life successfully, you are in a much better position to donate a lot of money later.  .
