  1. I think there is a female builder in 'Bob the Builder'?   Don't know her name.  Also a female fire fighter in the 'Fireman Sam' books - Penny I think.  I seem to recall that 'Tom' from the programme 'Tots TV' used to do a lot of cleaning.  The 'Thomas the Tank Engine' stories have (male and) female engines.  Or are they just the carriages?

  2. Lots of the shows on Discovery Channel and the Learning Channel show women in non-typical roles.  Last  night they had a show on about jails and showed a female jail guard at San Quentin.  And there are a lot of ads that show women as heads of companies.  Thing is, the definition of "traditional" roles has gotten pretty blurred nowadays, so they just don't stick out like they used to.

  3. The suite life of zack and cody

It is a tv program on disney channel

  4. Winnie The Pooh

    and

    Teletubbies

  5. a hockey team most kids well love to meet a hockey player once.

  6. Lazy Town maybe?  Battle of the Planets, Pob, Bagpuss.

  7. I used to watch The Magic School Bus - I learned a ton from it, the planets and ecosystems.

Arthur taught me a lot too - The Scarlet Letter and many other Literature are brought into this show, also facts such as "Red band near black venom lack, red band near yellow bite a fellow."

Postcard From Buster - is mostly about traveling and learning about other cultures in the US

Wishbone - that dog is adorable and the stories are also learned in high school

The Wizard of Oz - is actually about populism.

  8. PBS- Maya and Miguel, Franny's feet, Emily from Clifford the Big Red Dog

    Nick Jr- Dora the Explorer

Toon Disney- Kim Possible, The sister from Lilo and Stitch

Disney- Hannah Montana, That's So Raven

That's all I can think of right now. If you are not familiar with any of these shows just let me know and I can explain why they promote non-stereo-typical gender roles.

  9. Tinky Winky from the teletubbies with his purple handbag, Velma from s****. Doo, an intellectual woman, and even in the sixties identified as a L*****n and feminist icon.

Depending on the ages and level of the students, Xena, Captain Janeway from Star Trek-Voyager, Lt Uhura from the original Star Trek, Billy Piper in Dr Who.

Will from Will and Grace, non camp g*y man.

There was a couple of charactors in Thundercats, and the little girl in the Wild Thornberries that could talk to animals, a small girl with glasses and a brace as the hero of a cartoon!

Any number of Marvel Comic charactors, esp, the X-men, Spider-man (original school nerd/boff), Daredevil (Blind).

Don't know if she still features but Minnie the Minx in Beano, there was also a girl that played football in another seventies comic, but I seem to have forgotten her name.

I don't think I'm trying hard enough, their must be loads, I'm just not thinking hard enough here.
