I'm not sure how much detail you really need.  

An oil platform in the high seas collapsed.  They said it was  Japonese, and viewed by people travelling by helicopter.



The Italian film showed it in the middle of the Atlantic, off the coast of New York, it looks like.  The Italian one said it was a petroleum rig, owned by a japonese company.

They don't seem to know what caused the explosion, but everyone was accounted for.  I think.  Then, going back to the Spanish version, again, they said that there had been some activity by an activist group called Tidal Wave in the area, and they might have been responsible. (that didn't seem too certain, just a theory).  There were more than 300 people working on the rig.
