I have about $7500 saved up and I have a automatic is300 with e shift. I really want to turbo it but I heard I need to upgrade the tranny. Can i just also just buy a 2jzgte motor and swap it instead of buying a turbo for the 2jz in it now?

  1. Yes, you can. But ask yourself will it be worth it? Think about it this way. Your current IS300 2jz has the vvti motor. You will need to upgrade the internal on it if you plan to keep it. You must built the block on those because its weaker then the non vvtis. As far as the transmission goes.... your rranny can only hold about 350whp max..... and it will slowly break especially if you like to push it. Swapping in a GTE motor (with a tranny set assumingly) will cost you in access of 10k easily. There's a load of wiring that will need to get done for the harness to work with your car. (Dr. Tweak from supraforums can do it ~$500). Most GTE motor sets you will find will have the TT auto tranny that can also only hols 350whp before you start playing with fire.

Bottom line, if you end up swapping make sure to invest in a good transmission, either the supra getrag, the soarer R154 or a built auto. Either way, to get this thing working properly without shortcuts (aem ems, etc) will cost you over $15k. It can be done but it will cost you alot.
